Job Description

  1. We are seeking a mid-level to senior legal counsel to fill the role of ‘Commercial & IP Counsel’. This role will provide a full range of commercial legal support, and to take the lead in levelling up the organization in the area of intellectual property management. This portfolio supports CAG’s business divisions in brand protection, trademark management, marketing, advertising and promotions, and a broad range of commercial collaborations.

2.    Responsibilities will include:

  • Taking the lead to protect CAG’s intellectual property (IP) portfolio (including patents, trademarks and copyright), and driving the development of CAG’s IP strategy/policies and IP management system.
  • Advising on and mitigating IP risks across a wide range of projects from various business units, e.g. content licensing and new technology development;
  • Managing CAG’s trademark registration and maintenance, conducting clearance searches and handling IP disputes (e.g. trademark oppositions, copyright infringement claims);
  • Advising on, drafting and negotiating commercial contracts and documents, including those required by our advertising, marketing, communications, partnership and publicity teams to execute major brand campaigns and activations, agency, talent, and partnership agreements in Singapore and in various key markets;
  • Advising on and driving cross functional projects with business units on a broad range of issues including licensing, consumer protection, marketing and advertising, IP, and industry specific regulations;
  • Reviewing and advising on marketing materials to ensure local regulatory compliance and to protect CAG’s reputation;
  • Providing pragmatic day-to-day advice to manage legal risks whilst advancing business interests and ensuring an excellent customer experience;
  • Monitoring and updating CAG on ongoing legislation and regulatory changes; and
  • Preparing and conducting training to help increase legal acumen across our advertising, marketing, communications and publicity teams as needed.

Qualifications

Candidates should:

    • Have at least 6 years post-qualification experience from an established in-house legal team or established private practice law firm, or a mix of both. Candidates with intellectual property experience with a reputable law firm and/or with in house experience with a technology or marketing firm will stand an advantage;
    • Possess excellent drafting skills, including an ability to write clearly and concisely for non-legal stakeholders;
    • Have strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise and manage multiple time-sensitive projects simultaneously;
    • Be experienced in partnering with fast-paced projects, demanding clients and able to support business objectives without compromising legal and compliance goals;
    • Be a confident and clear communicator, able to work with people at all levels throughout the organisation including senior management;
    • Be a strong relationship builder; and
    • Have a collaborative approach, positive attitude, curious mind and willingness to learn, and the desire and ability to build on and improve processes at a systemic level.
